Reviewer verdict

Across 30 YouTube reviews, the MSI Katana 15 HX earns an Index score of 3.9/5, ranking #34 among Laptops. Reviewers most often praise its performance, design & build quality, storage & memory, while the most common criticisms concern design & build quality, performance.

Reviewers consistently praise the MSI Katana 15 for its potent performance, driven by high-end Intel Core HX-series processors and modern NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics. This powerful combination delivers smooth frame rates in demanding AAA titles and handles heavy multitasking with ease. Many configurations feature a sharp, vibrant 15.6-inch QHD display with a fast 165Hz refresh rate and 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, providing an excellent visual experience for both gaming and content creation. The well-regarded Cooler Boost 5 thermal system effectively manages heat, preventing throttling and ensuring stable performance under load. Combined with a comfortable RGB keyboard and a strong price-to-performance ratio, the Katana 15 stands out as a compelling mid-range gaming powerhouse.

The Katana 15's primary weaknesses stem from its budget-conscious construction. The all-plastic chassis, while sturdy, feels less premium than competitors and is a magnet for fingerprints. A significant frustration for many is the limited upgrade path, often featuring only a single M.2 SSD slot and RAM configurations that require replacing both modules for an upgrade. While high-end display options are great, base models are frequently criticized for being dim and having washed-out colors. Other common complaints include very short battery life, loud fan noise during intense gaming sessions, and a basic 720p webcam.
