Reviewer verdict

Across 21 YouTube reviews, the Nokia G42 5G earns an Index score of 4/5, ranking #33 among Smartphones. Reviewers most often praise its design and build, battery life, software, while the most common criticisms concern camera, design and build.

The G42 5G is widely praised for its build and design, with many reviewers (40 mentions) calling it well-built, comfortable to hold, lightweight and notably repairable with removable back cover and user-replaceable components. Reviewers frequently highlight solid day-to-day performance (32 mentions) driven by the Snapdragon 480/480+ platform, describing multitasking and casual gaming as smooth. Battery life and charging are another strong theme (32 mentions), with the 5,000 mAh battery and 20W charging repeatedly noted for all-day or multi-day endurance and included charger in the box. Other commonly applauded aspects are the 90 Hz vibrant display, clean Android 13 software with promised OS/security updates, and good value due to repairability and included accessories.

Reviewers commonly criticize the camera system (34 mentions), calling the secondary 2MP macro and depth sensors largely useless and noting weak low-light and limited video (1080p) performance. The design and build receive some negative notes as well (23 mentions) for thick bezels, plasticky materials, a waterdrop notch and fiddly self-repair with many small screws. The HD (720p) LCD display is repeatedly called a drawback (21 mentions), with reviewers wishing for a Full HD panel and occasionally reporting touch/ghosting issues when 90 Hz is off. A smaller group also point to the dated Snapdragon 480-series performance under heavy gaming, modest charging speeds, and average mono/tinny speakers or lack of noise-cancelling mic.
