FE 24mm F1.4 GM

Reviewer verdict

Across 40 YouTube reviews, the Sony FE 24mm F1.4 GM earns an Index score of 4/5, ranking #5 among Lenses. Reviewers most often praise its build quality, image quality, focal length/range, while the most common criticisms concern image quality, value for money.

Praised universally for its outstanding performance, the Sony 24mm F1.4 GM delivers exceptionally sharp images with beautiful bokeh, even wide open at f/1.4. Its fast, bright aperture makes it a low-light powerhouse, ideal for everything from astrophotography to indoor events. Reviewers consistently highlight its surprisingly compact and lightweight design, which, combined with top-notch G Master build quality and weather sealing, makes it a pleasure to handle. The fast, reliable autofocus keeps up with demanding situations, while videographers appreciate the versatile physical controls, especially the de-clickable aperture ring that allows for smooth exposure changes. Its combination of portability, optical excellence, and robust features makes it a highly recommended prime lens.

The most frequently cited drawback is its high price tag, which places it as a significant investment for a prime lens. Videographers consistently note the presence of noticeable focus breathing, which can be distracting during focus pulls. While optically excellent overall, it's not without flaws; some reviewers observed chromatic aberration and a degree of corner softness when shooting wide open at f/1.4. A few also mentioned that the autofocus system, while generally reliable, is based on older technology and can occasionally hunt or perform slower than Sony's latest lenses in challenging conditions.
