Across 16 YouTube reviews, the Denon DHT-S517 earns an Index score of 4.3/5, ranking #17 among Soundbars. Reviewers most often praise its sound quality, features, connectivity, while the most common criticisms concern connectivity, features.
The Denon DHT-S517 is widely praised for its sound quality, with 47 mentions noting immersive Dolby Atmos effects, clear dialogue from a dedicated center channel, and a powerful, well-balanced 3.1.2 presentation that reviewers say significantly improves TV, movie and music playback. Reviewers also commonly highlight its feature set (26 mentions) — including Dolby Atmos support, multiple sound modes and a dialog enhancer — and flexible connectivity (22 mentions) such as HDMI eARC pass-through, optical and Bluetooth. Ease of setup and use is another recurring positive (21 mentions), with many saying it is quick to install, pairs easily and can be controlled by TV remotes. The wireless subwoofer and bass performance are frequently commended (14 mentions each) for adding punch and deep low end without complicated wiring.
Criticisms focus primarily on limited networking and streaming features (10 mentions), with reviewers noting the S517 lacks Wi‑Fi, AirPlay, app control and broader smart/audio streaming options beyond Bluetooth. Some reviewers characterize the feature set as basic (9 mentions), pointing out no HEOS/multiroom support, limited sound-mode customization and no option to expand to rear speakers. A smaller number of reviewers raised sound or room-limit caveats (9 mentions), saying the bar can struggle to produce rear surround or may be less ideal in very large or unusual rooms. A few also flagged design and usability omissions (display, app absence) and the possibility that the subwoofer can be overpowering in some situations.
